NOTSOBAD

First ride, not so bad. Why? 1. I forgot that I got new spandies last year with a nice shammy, not so saddle sore as expected. 2. I was slow, there was a head wind but at least my favorite person was riding next to me! 2-fers all week this week. Run in the AM, ride in the PM. sweeeeeeat.

SADDLE AVOIDANCE

I've been avoiding the saddle of the bike for almost 2 seasons now... the whole running thing is so much easier than getting on the bike. But with the triathlon looming over my head in 4 weeks I decided it's time to re-mount and just get it over with. It's really the first few rides that are completely miserable, for two reasons. First, saddle soreness. Second, I hate being in spandex. I don't hate it as bad as when I weight 70+ more lbs. but I still feel like a freak show. I ran 3.5 miles this am and my goal is to do a quick 45 min spin just to feel it out tonight. Like Bob Saffell says, "stupid bike."

So I stole this from a friends blog who just adopted her second child from Viet Nam. I wish I could send this to every birth parent out there in the world, that's contemplating whether or not their child would have all the amazing opportunities they dreamt of with an adoptive family.

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME

I'm clicking my ruby slippers tonight and happy to be returning home finally after 2+ weeks in Switzerland and another weekend in California. Lots of laundry to catch up on, a beat up cat to tend to and a loving new St. Bernard puppy to love on. While we were in Switz and the in-laws were babysitting Kashi, they decided he needed a new best friend. He's cute and fuzzy and loves to play tug of war with the big boys. Pics coming soon.
Can't wait to get home into my own bed and dream about the crazy summer ahead of us.

BLITZ THIS!

Kevin just might end up staying in Switzerland forever... in jail. Today marked his third.... yes count them, 1...2....3.... speeding ticket from a "Blitz Box." Here there isn't really a highway patrol to catch dangerous tourists who speed through towns, instead they have a speed trap set up that takes your picture and catches your plate numbers if speeding. Yesterday on our way home from Luzern, Kev got blitzed twice. I yelled at him and said "I told you to slow down!" Just then... another flash of the camera. What is going on here !!!????? At least in the states you can talk your way out of a ticket. I would opt to be the designated driver from now on (who has a clean record of 11 years by the way) but I'm not on the rental car insurance. Stupid.

Luzern was rainy but great. I got car sick winding up and down the roads to the Alps.... probably due to Kevin's ridiculous driving :) We got really sick of trying to speak German and figure out Swiss restaurant menus and found a "California Burger." We ate good old fashioned American Cheeseburgers and Fries while watching soccer and speaking English! Loved it!
Then we (total nerds) decided to pretend we were on the Amazing Race and looking for the next clue... The Sad Lion, ran through the streets, dodging people and checking the map to make it to the next pit stop of the race!!!! I told you, nerds.

Mark Twain called it "the saddest and most moving piece of rock in the world" Dedicated to the soldiers who died fighting for King Louis XVI in the French Revolution.

City of Luzern

Little ski town in the Alps

Tuesday we walked to the Rhine Falls: Europe's largest water fall. When I said we walked.... we walked. It was my not so bright idea to park and walk about 1 hour each way along the river to get to/from the falls. Whatever, I needed to burn calories ok?

It was spectacular, we didn't take the ferry to the rock in the middle cuz we're broke. This place is almost 10 times a spend-e as the states.

Moose was scared of the loud water... so cute!
