CHOICE

I was having an ugly day yesterday. Real ugly. Not just feeling that way but some ugly things were going on in life too. I went to yoga hoping to find some strength and solace on the mat. Read this on a slip of paper that was framed in the room with the extra yoga mats.

THRIVE
STRUGGLE
or
SUFFER

Made me think about the availability of choice, when sometimes it feels like things are "happening TO us" that we have no control over. But we DO have the control over our reaction.

What do you chose?

If you can learn that principle now, Shannon, you will be way ahead of most people who either don't learn that until later in life, or sometimes not at all. So true, we have NO control over what others do TO us, but we always have control over how we choose to react. Jesus went through some really ugly days, the ugliest of them all: He sets the ultimate pattern for choosing to keep his mouth shut and do the hard thing.

So true. And funny thing is, a LOT of people fail to realize this.

My mom use to grind this message into our brains when we were younger. Whenever we would say "Mom, you make me so mad!" or "What she said totally offended me" she would always chime in and say "Nobody can MAKE you feel something" or "its your choice to feel offended." It use to bug me so bad but has taught me a valuable lesson indeed.
