Am I so mean - when Layla asks if she can ride in one, I tell her they only let you ride in them when it's your birthday. On her birthday, we picked her cake up at Harm0ns and yes, I let her ride in one. But I gave her lots of reminders that it's only on your birthday. So now when we approach a store with the dreaded car carts... my poor daughter says, "Oh, they have those birthday shopping carts. Can I ride in one again on my birthday?"
Am I so rude or what? Sorry kids. I love you - I'll make it up to you someday.

This is hilarious!! I read it to my husband and he laughed like crazy. I do this too- not exactly this, but I tell Abby that stuff is closed, or we "can't" do whatever, and the like, when I don't want to do it. She then will have a long detailed conversation with me about how or why we can't do whatever it is that she wanted to do. (I also now understand why my mom told us growing up that she was allergic to cats/dogs, simply because she didn't want to be a pet-owner!) Kids are lied to sometimes. Makes life easier. End of story.
We use those carts all the time (if the store has them). It's the only way to keep Tay in a cart.
That's genius!!!!! I'm telling my kids that!!!! I freaking hate those things too!!! You are not alone in not letting them ride!!! I always say no too but not as nice as you!!!!
No, I am totally with you, I hate those carts and the lure with which they entice your kids the second you walk through the doors...I am loving the birthday rule!
Love it and wish I could think that fast! Doesn't that make it extra special to only ride on your birthday too :)!
